Default Radial mount vs. Standard mount Calipers

Can someone explain to me the difference between radial mount calipers and standard (perpendicular) mount calipers. I've been reading a little on the subject and I don't seem to be gaining much. Videos and pictures help (I cant read good). I would also like to know about radial mcs too. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

This is simple. With out getting too technical. Standard mounts would sheer the mount bolts if they break. Because the bolt are being pushed/pulled from the sides by torque forces. Radial mounts the bolts are in line with the torque forces. The bolt would have to be pulled in half, not sheared. Either way, the mount bolts are seriously strong and won't break. Thats the only reason I can come up with why they were not radial mounted to start with.

found this link awhile back and it helped me understand the function/importance of radial MCs and why they give you more 'feel' on the binders:

there are both, young padawon...radial calipers and radial MC's.

radial calipers are along the lines of what you said, gsx.....radial MC's do make a difference in feel/ability to grab a little bit of brake and get a big response

Yeah I did ask about both since they are related. Ive also read things about the radial mount calipers having a better pad wear.

The simple answer to both is the moment arm. The radial master cylinder should provide better feel because you are acting directly against the plunger in your range of motion and not at a 90 degree angle across a lever or force converting arm. In the case of radial calipers, again you are reducing the torque applied to the bolted caliper. You are fundamentally changing the way in which the caliper braking force is applied through the fork. If you didn't mind the additional hassle and could put bolted mounts on both sides of the rotor, you could greatly increase the strength and reduce torsion in the brake caliper. Radial mounts are a good compromise that reduce that torsion or moment arm compared to conventional mount calipers.

If you ever want to get serious, here is a set for your racecar:
RaceCar Calipers

Here is a set for your bike:
Race Bike Calipers

Just remember that those calipers cost something like $2k each.
